Ambient ~ Listening Event

PELAGIC꩜ is a series of ambient listening sessions mainly in Rotterdam, creating spaces for gathering, presence and intentional listening. This edition took place at Bruidplaats, a community space in the south of Rotterdam, situated on a small island surrounded by nature.

For the spatial intervention, I wanted to translate the fluidity of sound into the physical environment. Hanging textiles moved softly through the space, introducing a sense of water, suspension and continuous flow. Natural elements, lace and beads came together to form a circular portal. Acting as an anchor between the physical and the imagined, the portal invited visitors to cross into a quieter, dreamlike state, one where listening extends beyond sound and into the body, the environment, and one another.

The portal became an anchor within the space: a threshold to enter through, listen from, and drift towards. Rather than creating a backdrop for the event, the set was conceived as an environment that could hold the collective act of listening and allow the body to move between presence and reverie.
